How to add favorite Instagram photos to Pinterest

Lately I’ve been wanting to add more of the beautiful images I see on Instagram to Pinterest.  I have boards for Still Life, Floral Inspiration, Nature, and others that need some new images, but I always feel like I see the SAME things over and over again on my Pinterest feed.

I am usually on my iPad or iPhone when I’m looking at Instagram, and that’s usually when I want to Pin too.

I suppose I could just take a screen shot and then put the image on Pinterest, but it doesn’t give the artist any credit.  This way it will link back to the artists' Instagram account and hey, if you like it too, you might want to follow that artist, and I’m pretty sure they’d like that.

I imagine there are other ways to do this, and it’s not how you do it on the computer, but here’s how I do it… Bear with me, it SEEMS like it’s a lot, but it’s really easy once you get the steps.

Go to Instagram > Your profile > and click on the Gear ⚙

Go to ‘Posts you’ve Liked’ > This brings up the grid of all your favorites.  Choose the image you want to Pin > Click on the three dots in the top right corner > choose ‘Copy Share URL’ That saves the URL to your clipboard.

Now navigate to Pinterest.

Go to your profile 👤, at the top right, above your picture is a ➕, click it, and choose ‘copied link’.  this brings up images associated with that URL.

Choose the image you want and then pick the board.

That’s it!

I do this quickly on my iPad or iPhone by double clicking the home button to switch between apps.  It may seem like a lot of steps, but once you know them, it's really pretty fast.

My super talented friend Kim Klassen has made a video to show you how easy it is! See it HERE.

Let me know if you have any questions....

Hi Kely,
Thanks so much for this new way to try out! Unfortunately, I get the same message as before, no board shows up. I’ll ask Pinterest about it and let you know once it’ll be fixed. Thanks so much again! ?

Hi Rosie,

OK, so you copy the link from Instagram, then open Pinterest, go to the + above your name, choose “copied link” and the pictures come up? that’s good! Just click one of the instagram images that comes up, and then your boards should come up for you to chose where to ‘save’ them. You never have to click ‘save’ or ‘pin’. I hope that helps.
See you on Instagram!

Hi Kelly, Thanks so much for answering – I tried it both with iPhone and iPad, I always get the same message, although I do see the photo, but I can’t save it. I’ll write to Pinterest as you suggested :-)
I’m happy to have found you on IG and I also subscribed to your blog :-)
Have a wonderful day, xo, Rosie

Hi Rosie! So nice of you to stop by.
hmmm. I’m sorry you’re having that issue. I have not had that happen. So even if you click the “save” or “pin” button anywhere? That seems strange. Is this only on your devices? Phone? iPad? I would write to Pinterest if it was always happening to me. Good luck, let me know if you get it figured out. :)

Thanks so much for sharing this amazing tutorial, Kelly – I discovered it in the Studio :-)
However, I have the problem that when I choose “copied link” the photo I had selected in Instagram shows up together with the message “Couldn’t find any images to save”; the message shows up again, whenever I click on the Save-button in Pinterest. I closed both apps, then opened them up again, I’m logged into both IG and Pinterest, but I always get that message… have you ever had that problem or know a solution to it?
Thanks so much and in the meantime I’ll check out your IG gallery :-)
